The senior mens team have topped the Northwest League after defeating Kilcar and Donegal town. In a hectic week where the lads lost to Sligo warriors in a home game on Tuesday night, they pulled off a great win in an away game to Kilcar on Friday night. To take the 3 points in Kilcar, a venue so challenging that most league sides would rather concede the points than travel, in itself was a feat (Boyle won by 3 points....). However, the league is decided on a top 4 basis and Boyle have to face Sligo Warriors next Saturday in the semi final. Carrick on Shannon and Donegal town will compete in the other semi.
The U16 girls pulled off a great win against Ballinamore yesterday and are still on track for a Final position against Mohill. With the last few games remaining to be played in the Shannonside league Boyle are hoping to be in both u14 and u16 finals which are now fixed for Friday 9th April in Mohill.
Training for Under 10 Boys and girls has now concluded for the season.
Under 16 boys have a challenge against Croghan this Friday (Good Friday ) at 7pm in the complex. The U16/18s play Bunninaden in a friendly later at 8pm.

Ladies win Top 4 in thrilling final
under 10 girls take Gold in Ballinamore
The Boyle ladies were out in force this past weekend !
The seniors overcame Mohill in a fast paced and exciting match in Boyle last Saturday evening.
Both sides had disposed of their semi final contenders - Roscommon and Carrick on Shannon the previous night. Boyle looked the worst for wear after making hard work of their Roscommon opposition while Mohill with an understrenght bench were more energetic from the off. Boyle ran up a 9 point lead early in the 1st quarter which they duly squandered over the following 25 minutes play. Indeed great credit must go to Mohill for their determination and "never say die" attitude throughtout the game and right to the final whistle. The home side had a 1 point advantage going into the 4th quarter but repeated missed lay-ups and free-throws allowed Mohill to make a serious bid for the title. When team captain Siobhan Conroy had to leave the game with an ankle injury the safe money switched to Mohill. However Devin Finneran who had an outstanding game under the boards for Boyle scored 4 points in quick succession to give her side a well needed lift. Last year's MVP Saoirse O'Flaherty raised her game and a blistering 3 pointer followed by 3 strong drives to the hoop put the game well and truly beyond Mohill's reach with 2 minutes to go. This was a fantastic game of basketball and credit must go to both sides for the sporting manner in which it was played.
Boyle 51 : Mohill 39.
Boyle were presented with the Top 4 trophies and also the League Cup for the second year running.
Mohill captain Sara Mulligan was a worthy recipient of the Final MVP award.
The under 10 girls took the gold medals in the Shannonside blitz in Ballinamore last Sunday. Jackie Valentine has done a great job coaching the girls all season and the win follows their success in the pre Christmas Blitz in Boyle. Well done Jackie ! Well done Girls !
Boyle will host the Under 16 girls blitz this Sunday 21st March commencing at 9:30am in the Sports Complex.

Boyle Ladies through to Top 4 Final tomorrow..
The Boyle senior ladies made hard work of their Top 4 semi against Roscommon tonight in Mohill. They now face Mohill in the final tomorrow evening at 5:30 pm in the Sports complex in Boyle. Mohill were lucky to come out on top in their semi against Carrick on Shannon. Trailing for most of the game they came from behind to snatch a victory in the last minute of the game.
Tomorrow is the highlight of the Boyle ladies season as they pick up the League title Cup and hopefully can add the Top 4 title to it. Please come along to the complex after the rugby game and support the ladies.

The Under 10 boys participated in the Shannonside blitz in Kilglass hosted by the Kilmore Club last Sunday. This was the lads first competive basketball outing and they acquitted themselves well against opposition from Mohill and Kilmore. While they didnt take home any silverware reports from coach O'Brien suggest that the easter eggs went down better than any medals ! - well done lads !!
The U14 girls lost their league game against old rivals Mohill tonight. A sharper Mohill outfit were 2o points up going into the 4th Quarter but Boyle pulled back with some good scores from Eithne McNamara , Melissa McGoldrick and Sinead Meehan. Poor finishing under the boards however denied Boyle several chances to get back into serious contention and Mohill finished 14 points ahead at the final whistle.
Congratulations to our senior Ladies who won the Shannonside league last Saturday night.
The girls lost only 1 game during the season and have retained the league title. Mohill pushed the home side all the way and but for a depleted squad might have caused an upset. Score : Boyle 55 Mohill 46.

Club news Monday 1st March.
The Under 16 girls were defeated in their league game against Mohill last Thursday night.
The under 14 and under 16 boys were in Mohill yesterday for the second round Shannonside blitzes. The under 14's were unlucky in their game against Kilmore losing by 2 points. A classier Mohill side and a strong Buninaden side knocked Boyle out of the running for medals but the lads enjoyed the day out and have shown much improvement since their last Blitz before Christmas.
Team : Cole Gunning, Aaron O'Brien, John Keane, Sean Duarte, Patrick McDonnell, Gareth Gilmartin, Brian Finn and Oisin Regan.
The Under 16 lads took the gold medals with 3 straight wins against Kilmore Buninaden and an understrenght Mohill side who were without the services of International Cian McGuinness and the injured Eanna Madden.
The Boyle lads easily accounted for Kilmore but faced a tough challenge against a taller and fitter Buninaden side. Point guard Dylan East was excellent throughout while Rokas Gain punished any sloppy defence with his skillful drives. Colin Doherty continues to grow in confidence and was very effective all day in the centre position. Boyle managed to hold out for a 2 point win against the Sligo lads with all of the team contributing. Gerard Shannon and Cian O'Brien were particularly effective coming off the bench and worked hard in defence. Lewis McGowan in the forward position was very effective under the boards in offence and defence. The under 16 lads were augmented by the addition of Aaron O'Brien and Sean Duarte from the Under 13 squad and their contribution was very valuable as Boyle faced a resolute Mohill side immediately after a tough game against the lads from south Sligo. Boyle ran up a 15 point lead against the Leitrim lads before Rokas Gain had to leave the game with cramp. His absence allowed Mohill back into the game and with 3 blistering "3 pointers" Mohill came back to within 1 point with a minute to go . Boyle managed to hold out to win their 1st Blitz at Under 16 level in 2 years. Well done lads on a great team effort.
Team : Rokas Gain, Cian O'Brien, Gerard Shannon, Dylan East, Lewis McGowan, Colin Doherty, Aaron O'Brien, Sean Duarte,
Senior Ladies are away to Streete on Wednesday night and at Home to Mohill on Saturday at 5pm. Mohill are the only side to defeat the Boyle ladies so far this season. A win for Boyle is essential to secure the league.

Club news Update Tuesday 23rd Feb 2010.
The Shannonside under 14 Girls blitz played last Saturday in Boyle was dominated by Mohill BC with Mohill B emerging the winners in a Final against Mohill A. The Leitrim teams were in a different class against opposition from the host Club, Loughglynn, Skreen (Sligo) and Ballinamore.
A depleted Boyle team (the Athletics in Lough Key Forest park and the Football trials in Roscommon took their toll on Joe Jennedy's charges..) struggled against Mohill A and Ballinamore and failed to make the play-offs despite some good play. The Boyle girls emerged the winners in a Derby game against local rivals Ardcarne on Thursday night (40-35) and can still make an impression in the League with every thing to play for in their remaining games. Many thanks to Gary Wynne and the GAA lads for their co-operation in getting the blitz up and running on-time last Saturday - much appreciated.!
The senior men showing some fatigue from their win against Sligo All-stars last Thursday were in action again on Friday night at home versus Kilcar in the Northwest league. An understrenght Donegal side came close to victory and if it wasn't for lack of discipline would have taken the 2 points. Boyle had a 9 point lead going into the 4th quarter but allowed Kilcar back into the game. Kilcar's tenacious defence forced Boyle into several turnovers and it was all to play for with 1 minute to go. Boyle's O'Flaherty was fouled and an indiscretion by Kilcar increased the 2 free throws to 4 which O'Flaherty duly converted. Boyle 64 Kilcar 60. A highly charged game, the result for Boyle was retribution for their 12 point defeat against Kilcar in the cup semi-final 2 weeks ago.
The senior Ladies had 5 points to spare against Carrick On Shannon on Saturday night in the Shannonside League. The Carrick girls failed to capitalise on their height advantage and were unable to cope with Saoirse O'Flaherty's strenght under the boards and 3 point shooting. the ladies were in Roscommon the previous night where they easily accounted for the home side on a score of 30 -16.
The under 14 and under 16 boys are in Mohill next Sunday for Shannonside blitzs . Travel arrangements will be made at training on Friday night.
The under 16 girls have a league game against Mohill at home this Thursday at 8pm.
