Club news Update Tuesday 23rd Feb 2010.

The Shannonside under 14 Girls blitz played last Saturday in Boyle was dominated by Mohill BC with Mohill B emerging the winners in a Final against Mohill A. The Leitrim teams were in a different class against opposition from the host Club, Loughglynn, Skreen (Sligo) and Ballinamore.

A depleted Boyle team (the Athletics in Lough Key Forest park and the Football trials in Roscommon took their toll on Joe Jennedy's charges..) struggled against Mohill A and Ballinamore and failed to make the play-offs despite some good play. The Boyle girls emerged the winners in a Derby game against local rivals Ardcarne on Thursday night (40-35) and can still make an impression in the League with every thing to play for in their remaining games. Many thanks to Gary Wynne and the GAA lads for their co-operation in getting the blitz up and running on-time last Saturday - much appreciated.!

The senior men showing some fatigue from their win against Sligo All-stars last Thursday were in action again on Friday night at home versus Kilcar in the Northwest league. An understrenght Donegal side came close to victory and if it wasn't for lack of discipline would have taken the 2 points. Boyle had a 9 point lead going into the 4th quarter but allowed Kilcar back into the game. Kilcar's tenacious defence forced Boyle into several turnovers and it was all to play for with 1 minute to go. Boyle's O'Flaherty was fouled and an indiscretion by Kilcar increased the 2 free throws to 4 which O'Flaherty duly converted. Boyle 64 Kilcar 60. A highly charged game, the result for Boyle was retribution for their 12 point defeat against Kilcar in the cup semi-final 2 weeks ago.

The senior Ladies had 5 points to spare against Carrick On Shannon on Saturday night in the Shannonside League. The Carrick girls failed to capitalise on their height advantage and were unable to cope with Saoirse O'Flaherty's strenght under the boards and 3 point shooting. the ladies were in Roscommon the previous night where they easily accounted for the home side on a score of 30 -16.

The under 14 and under 16 boys are in Mohill next Sunday for Shannonside blitzs . Travel arrangements will be made at training on Friday night.

The under 16 girls have a league game against Mohill at home this Thursday at 8pm.

Former Boyle player Jason Goldrick is currently lining out with Shamrock Rovers "Hoops" in the Basketball Ireland Superleague. Follow Southern Conference side "Hoops" and Jason's performance on www.basketballireland.ie. Jason is a very talented player and we are all proud of his achievement in playing basketball at the very highest level. Well done Jason !

Club news update

Thursday 18th Feb.

Well done to the Senior men who came back from 15 points down to beat Sligo allstars by 1 point (with 10 seconds remaining...!!) in the Northwest league tonight in Sligo. The lads take on Kilcar (who knocked Boyle out of the cup 2 weeks ago on a score line of 101-89) in a league game tomorrow night (Friday) in Boyle at 9pm. This should be a cracker of a game and supporters /spectators are welcome.

The under 14 girls overcame Ardcarne in a Shannonside league derby game in Boyle tonight. Score Boyle 40 Ardcarne 35.

The Club are hosting the Shannonside Under 14 girls blitz this Saturday in Boyle starting at 1:30pm with Boyle and Mohill A. Other teams participating are Mohill B, Loughglynn, Skreen (Sligo); and Ballinamore. Supporters and spectators are welcome. The blitz will be followed by a senior Ladies game between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon in the Shannonside League.

Good luck to all our participants this weekend !

Club news

Congratulations to the U13 girls who won the Boyle people of the year award (under 30 category) last Friday night. Great credit is due to the girls and their coach Joe Kennedy for their dedication and commitment in winning the Under 13 community games County title last year.

Our u12 girls won silver in the Blitz in Ballinamore yesterday. Congratulations to all!!. Thanks to coach Phil Emmett and the parents who travelled with the girls last Sunday.

The senior ladies game V Carrick on Shannon scheduled for last Saturday was postponed.

The senior men made their exit from the Northwest Cup in an exciting game against Kilcar (Donegal) last Saturday in the semi-finals which were played in the Grammar school in Sligo. A high scoring game (101 - 89) , saw the welcome return of Martin Kalisz to the Boyle side after been out through injury for the past 2 months. The senior men play Sligo Allstars away next Sunday 14th Feb at 4pm. Their next home game is against Kilcar on Friday 19th Feb in Boyle.

The Senior men made amends with a superb performance against a Carrick on Shannon side coached by the experienced Maureen McKeon from Ardcarne last Sunday in the Northwest league. Boyle got off to a great start and were 13 points up before Carrick got on the scoresheet. Boyle did enough to keep ahead and had 9 points to spare at the end of 40 minutes play (Final score Boyle 60 - Carrick on Shannon 51).

The u18 Boys lost out in their friendly against Mohill on Friday night. A more physical Leitrim side dominated the aerial duels winning the bulk of the rebounds. Boyle failed to convert too many scoring chances under the boards. Jeff Gunning impressed with excellent 3-point shooting while Mark Goldrick's drives to the boards were effective throughout.
