Club news Update Tuesday 23rd Feb 2010.

The Shannonside under 14 Girls blitz played last Saturday in Boyle was dominated by Mohill BC with Mohill B emerging the winners in a Final against Mohill A. The Leitrim teams were in a different class against opposition from the host Club, Loughglynn, Skreen (Sligo) and Ballinamore.

A depleted Boyle team (the Athletics in Lough Key Forest park and the Football trials in Roscommon took their toll on Joe Jennedy's charges..) struggled against Mohill A and Ballinamore and failed to make the play-offs despite some good play. The Boyle girls emerged the winners in a Derby game against local rivals Ardcarne on Thursday night (40-35) and can still make an impression in the League with every thing to play for in their remaining games. Many thanks to Gary Wynne and the GAA lads for their co-operation in getting the blitz up and running on-time last Saturday - much appreciated.!

The senior men showing some fatigue from their win against Sligo All-stars last Thursday were in action again on Friday night at home versus Kilcar in the Northwest league. An understrenght Donegal side came close to victory and if it wasn't for lack of discipline would have taken the 2 points. Boyle had a 9 point lead going into the 4th quarter but allowed Kilcar back into the game. Kilcar's tenacious defence forced Boyle into several turnovers and it was all to play for with 1 minute to go. Boyle's O'Flaherty was fouled and an indiscretion by Kilcar increased the 2 free throws to 4 which O'Flaherty duly converted. Boyle 64 Kilcar 60. A highly charged game, the result for Boyle was retribution for their 12 point defeat against Kilcar in the cup semi-final 2 weeks ago.

The senior Ladies had 5 points to spare against Carrick On Shannon on Saturday night in the Shannonside League. The Carrick girls failed to capitalise on their height advantage and were unable to cope with Saoirse O'Flaherty's strenght under the boards and 3 point shooting. the ladies were in Roscommon the previous night where they easily accounted for the home side on a score of 30 -16.

The under 14 and under 16 boys are in Mohill next Sunday for Shannonside blitzs . Travel arrangements will be made at training on Friday night.

The under 16 girls have a league game against Mohill at home this Thursday at 8pm.
